Bio:
You will find Kirmann_ at the frontier between laptop glitch music, and
melancholic instrumental.
Franz Kirmann uses computers and acoustic sounds to create a dreamy electronica,
a music made of fragments of sounds and melodies, fragile and dense at the same
time.
Kirmann_ aims to produce the perfect soundtrack for your dreams; working as a
film editor, he applies the same principles and technique, treating sounds and
melodies like celluloid, making a collage of sounds and textures which
juxtaposition creates a sense of melancholy and spleen.
Born in France but raised in Senegal where his family moved in the early 80s,
Franz grew up in an artistic atmosphere and fell in love with music at a very
young age.
In his teens, he played in a new wave band influenced by New Order and The Cure,
and later on started a noisy band drawing its inspiration from the no-wave and
shoegazing scene with artists such as My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth.
In January 2000, Franz Kirmann moved to London, to study filmmaking and finding
himself with too little time to start a band, he began to compose music under
his own name with the help of computers and various softwares. Gaining
confidence in his compositions, he started to play live in different clubs and
bars of the underground London electronica scene.
He's now playing a monthly night with label Multivitamins at The Pool in Old
Street and is about to release a track on their third net compilation.
He is due to release a 3" CDR for Lona Records early next year.
